Viral Video: To attract viewers in the digital era, social media influencers are always pushing the creative envelope. Some artists pose as impoverished people to test the empathy of the public, while others test strangers’ charity by making unusual demands. In addition to igniting discussions, these provocative experiments provide an insight into the intricacies of human nature.

In one such case, influencer Sharad, who is located in Lucknow, made the decision to use a smartly created test to assess the honesty of street merchants. He armed himself with a covert camera and went to many vendors, including those selling veggies, ice cream, and momos, saying he had previously bought something but had unintentionally underpaid. After that, he put their money to “clear his dues” and saw how they responded.

The majority of vendors maintained their integrity by claiming they had no recollection of any outstanding transactions and refused to accept the money. Nonetheless, two vendors—one selling paan and the other selling ice cream—accepted Rs 10 apiece, maybe out of trust or doubt. After being caught on camera, the whole experiment became viral online, sparking a range of conflicting responses.

Playfully, a third person remarked, “Bhai, tyoumujhse 80 rs udhar liye the, redeem code bana ke DM kar de uska.”

“Brother, a store receives 200–400 customers in a day, and it’s impossible to remember them all, even if someone steals the money. Since I own a store as well, I am aware of how difficult it is to keep track of every transaction. Since many clients sometimes forget to pay or postpone payments, and occasionally we also forget to collect them, it’s likely that they just don’t recall. No one would purposefully steal money dishonestly,” another user wrote.
