The selection of all-rounder Shadab Khan for the national T20 team has drawn criticism from former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, who has pointed to it as an illustration of the poor choices that have resulted in Pakistan cricket’s present predicament.
Pakistan cricket is presently in a crisis, akin to being in an intensive care unit (ICU), according to Afridi, who harshly condemned the decision and blamed it on a string of poor judgments.
Shadab, who had been out of favor since the previous T20 World Cup, was called up and named Salman Ali Agha’s second captain for Pakistan’s T20 team in the away series against New Zealand.
“Why has he been called back? In a media interview, Shahid questioned, “What are his performances in domestic cricket or otherwise that he had been picked again?”
Nothing will change in Pakistani cricket until choices are made based on merit, according to the flashy all-rounder.
“We constantly discuss preparations, and when anything goes wrong, we discuss surgery. The truth is that Pakistani cricket is in the intensive care unit due of poor choices.
He pointed out that every time a new chairman assumes leadership, everything is altered.
“The Board’s policies and decisions lack coherence and continuity. The former captain said, “We keep switching captains, coaches, or some players, but what is the accountability for Board officials in the end?”
He added it was disheartening to see coaches accusing players of stealing their jobs and managers accusing coaches and players of stealing seats.
“With a sword dangling over the heads of the captain and coaches, how can our cricket team advance?
Additionally, he believed that while Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB, was a pleasant person, his knowledge of cricket was lacking.
He wants to succeed for Pakistan, but ultimately he relies on guidance, and I informed him that he couldn’t keep doing three jobs at once. Being PCB Chairman is a full-time job, thus he has to concentrate on only one task.
