New Telecom Rules Curb Spam Calls, but Scammers Are Adopting Internet Calls to Deceive People
Innocent People Falling for Internet Call Scams
Tech Desk, New Delhi: With the implementation of new telecom regulations by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) from October 1, 2024, spam and fraudulent calls have been significantly reduced. Telecom companies are utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technology to tackle such issues effectively. However, scammers have now found a new way to target people—through internet calls.
These fraudsters are using internet-based calling services to trick unsuspecting individuals. There are certain numbers that, if you receive a call from them, should be blocked immediately to protect yourself from potential fraud.
According to the Thailand Telecom Authority, internet-based scam calls often originate from numbers beginning with +697 and +698. These calls are primarily intended to deceive individuals and steal sensitive information. The biggest challenge in tackling such frauds is that these calls are difficult to trace. Scammers cleverly disguise their locations using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), making it almost impossible to track their actual whereabouts.
If you receive a call from a number starting with +697 or +698, it is best to block it immediately. Scammers use these calls to lure users into their marketing schemes and extract personal information. Once they have access to your details, they begin their fraudulent activities, leading to financial losses or identity theft.
If you accidentally pick up a suspicious call, never share your personal information. Fraudsters often pose as representatives from government agencies, banks, or other legitimate organizations to gain your trust. If they ask for any details, request a callback number instead and inform them that you will call back yourself. If they hesitate or refuse to provide a callback number, it is a clear sign of a scam.
To safeguard yourself from such scams, it is crucial to stay informed about the latest fraud techniques. Scammers continuously find new ways to exploit innocent individuals, making it essential to be cautious. Avoid sharing your phone number, email ID, or other sensitive details on unfamiliar platforms to minimize the risk of falling victim to online fraud.
Stay alert and protect your hard-earned money by being vigilant against suspicious calls!
