The study has shown that about one -third of the youth or about 25 million youths between the ages of 5 to 25 are now living with these diseases, which started in childhood. It is affecting and limiting their lives to a great extent. Lauren Visk, an assistant professor and lead author of medical at the University of California-Loss Angeles in the US, said, “The prevalence of childhood diseases is currently more than previous estimates.”
“Youths who are subject to socio -economic weaknesses, such as youth who are on low education, low income, public insurance, are more likely to live with chronic disease than the youth with socio -economic benefits,” said Visk. For a study published in colleague-secured magazine Academic Pediatrics, researchers analyzed data of about 236,500 participants in the US aged 5 to 25 years.
He found that this frequency in children between 5 and 17 years of age increased from about 23 percent in 1999/2000 to more than 30 percent by 2017/2018. This is equal to an estimated 130,000 additional children per year. In young adults aged 18 to 25, the prevalence increased from 18.5 percent to 29 percent in the same period, ie about 80,000 additional youth every year.
Visk said that it is possible to treat almost all conditions with access to high quality healthcare. The researcher urged these youths to invest more to help them appropriately join healthcare during their lifetime to protect their health and welfare.
