After Shahid Kapoor – Kareena Kapoor’s reunion, Imtiaz Ali breaks his silence: ‘Have moved on…’

Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor created a nostalgic moment at IIFA 2025 when they met exchanged smiles and shared a warm hug. The ex-couple’s brief chat was captured by paparazzi leaving fans excited about their unexpected reunion. Interestingly filmmaker Imtiaz Ali who directed Jab We Met also reacted to their interaction. Speaking about the growing buzz around a sequel to the 2007 hit film he shared his thoughts in a recent interview.
Ali said he found it amusing that Shahid and Kareena’s reunion at IIFA sparked discussions about Jab We Met. Addressing Shahid’s remark that the director had moved on from the film Ali responded I think everyone has moved on. It’s been a long time since Jab We Met.
He also made it clear that he has no plans for a sequel saying We should cherish the film as it is rather than risk spoiling it with a sequel. While he is not working on a project with Shahid and Kareena at the moment Ali expressed his admiration for both actors adding that he had an amazing time working with them.
“Actually I find it very interesting that Shahid and Kareena met up in IIFA and people are talking to me about ‘Jab We Met’. Shahid has said that he thinks that I have moved on but I think that everybody has moved on. It’s been a long time since Jab We Met Ali told PTI.
“I think we should savour that and we should not spoil it by coming up with a sequel at all he further said added “I’m not really planning a movie with Shahid and Kareena per se but it’s great that they met and they’re both very fantastic actors. I obviously had the greatest time working with both of them he added.
Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor’s Jab We Met became a massive hit when it released in 2007. The film was loved by both audiences and critics quickly earning a cult following among romantic comedy fans. Made on a budget of Rs 15 crore the movie went on to collect Rs 50 crore at the box office making it one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of the year.
Over time the movie cemented its place as a classic in Bollywood. The film also received several awards including two honors at the 55th National Film Awards - Best Female Playback Singer for Shreya Ghoshal and Best Choreography for Saroj Khan both for the song Yeh Ishq Hai.
