Mumbai: The BMC has decided to take up a clean up drive on both highways in Mumbai, the Eastern and Western Express Highway. The drive will begin from Monday, March 17 to Saturday March 22 and the cleaning activities will be carried from 10 pm to 6 am, ensuring traffic flow is not affected and work is carried without much obstruction.
The clean-up drive will not include roads but footpaths, dividers, service roads and ramps. With the help of traffic police, temporarily road diversions will be given at night time when cleaning activities are carried out.
Deputy municipal commissioner of Solid Waste Management department Kiran Dighavkar said that during the cleanup campaign of the Eastern and Western Express Highway, apart from using mechanical cleaning brooms and jet pressure cleaning of roads, painting and maintenance of road traffic signals and signages will also be carried out.
The drive will also include cleaning and removing waste from bus stops, fencing of roadside trees, removal of obstructions including dumped vehicles, removal of unauthorised hoardings, cleaning public toilets etc. The BMC also aims to repair broken paver block footpaths, painting and repairs of footpaths and road dividers wherever necessary.
