An allotment is a great place to grow your own fruits, vegetables, and plants. But some choose to getting growing in their own too if they have the space.
It can be incredibly satisfying to yield crops and plants - but it does require a lot of effort. Luckily, Sally of sallygrace_gardening on has shared a video in which she showcased the three key tasks that are needed if you want to keep your outdoor areas in top shape.
Sally started: "My first job is cutting back some of the old canes from last year. These are a summer fruiting variety and it's long overdue."
The TikToker tested her thorn-proof gloves while working on her raspberry patch, but faced a few challenges. "Let's be honest, I should have been more concerned about these taking my eyes out," she quipped as she took over the canes with a pair of secateurs. Sally continued: "I caught my hair a few times and poke my head but hey ho, move on."
When growing summer fruiting raspberries, it's important not to cut back all the canes, as they form on last year's new growth, the content creator went on to explain. Additionally, with proper care, you can grow an abundance of fruit, she urged.
"I still haven't got round to building a proper frame for these but it's on my list of jobs to do along with many other things," Sally admitted. She added: "I felt quite chuffed with myself for clearing these until it nearly took my eye out again.
"I'm trying not to get overwhelmed cause there are so many things I need to do but one step at a time.
Sally admitted found the grass patches at her allotment hard to remove, often forgetting how much work it is. She also shared that she had the unpleasant experience of stepping on a rotten onion, but still enjoyed the sunny weather and seeing some ladybirds thrive.
Her next job consisted of planting out raspberry canes, "which are long overdue again". The enthusiast noted that while she seemingly already has enough raspberry canes, this is an autumn fruiting variety that will yield fruit later in the year.
Moving on to her final task, she informed her viewers that she was fixing her double arches. "I removed the bottom poles to make it a bit smaller," she revealed. Sally concluded by clearing up the space with a rake.
Sally's video, which amassed over 2,300 views, left many viewers impressed as a TikTok user commented: "Now that was a good job congratulations." Someone else penned: "Good job! I wish I had space for raspberries at my allotment. Great idea to plant summer and autumn fruiting ones for all season harvest."
on what to plant indoors and outdoors. She recommended options like pumpkins, tomatoes, and herbs for indoor planting, and carrots, lettuce, and radishes for outdoor sowing.
