The trend of concerts has always been enthralling for the audience. Whether it is Diljit Dosanjhs concert Arijit Singh Coldplay Karan Aujla or AP Dhillon thousands of fans attend these events. However do you know that even before Diljit’s tour another concert—100 times larger than Diljit’s—took place in the ’90s? Yes you read that right! Scroll down to read more about it.
In December 1994 a massive New Years Eve celebration was organized at Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach. Interestingly such large-scale events are usually held on the beach and what attracts massive crowds is the free entry and no restrictions on food or alcohol creating a carnival-like environment.
On December 31 1994 Rod Stewart performed at Copacabana setting a record with an incredible 3.5 million attendees—surpassing the population of many nearby cities.
The record was matched three years later when French musician Jean-Michel Jarre set the stage on fire with his performance at the Oxygene concert in Moscow. The concert drew a whopping 3.5 million people in attendance. These two events remain the largest in history even surpassing Diljit’s event.
The only way for so many people to attend the concert is through free tickets. It is obvious that when ticket prices skyrocket there will be fewer people in attendance. The largest ticketed concert on record took place in 2017 when Italian artist Vasco Rossi drew an audience of 225000 fans to his Modena Park show
