Reacting to an interview of the man accused in the Vadodara Accident that killed 1 woman and injured several,Rakshit Chaurasia, Congress' national spokesperson Supriya Shrinate has questioned as to how can a person in police custody give interviews?
Reacting to the interview by Zee News Gujarat, Shirnate said,"Rakshit Chaurasia who in a drunken state yesterday not only crushed people under his car but also indulged in barbarism after that today he is giving interviews to TV channels and pretending to be innocent. First of all, how can a person in police custody talk to the media? Has this rich spoilt brat fought any freedom struggle that he is being interviewed?"
In the interview, the 20-year-old law student can be heard blaming a pothole for the accident. He said, “We were turning right and there was a pothole on the road. There was a scooter and a car while we were turning right... The car slightly touched the other vehicle and the airbag opened suddenly, our vision was hampered and mistakenly I pressed the accelerator instead of brake and the car went out of control.”
Chaurasia said that he was coming back from his friends house after the Holika Dahan ceremony. He also denied that he was drunk.
"Regret is a very small word and I want to meet the parents of the deceased and apologise to them," the boy said.
He further said, "I have spoiled mine as well as their life because getting out of something like this is not easy."
The fourth year law student also said that he had not spoken to his parents since the mishap.
The accident occurred around 12.30 am on Friday near Muktanand crossroads in the Karelibaug area following which Chaurasia was arrested. A video of the incidents also went viral on social media. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle took a sharp turn, which caused it to hit the two-wheeler. The CCTV footage shows that the car was at high speed.
When asked why he was shouting 'Nikita' 'Nikita' after the accident, The man said, "The girl's name came out randomly. Because I was in a panic state."
Rakshit who continues to remain in custody said, he was surrounded by a mob who started thrashing him. The police saved him from the mob and took him in custody.
