New Delhi: A week before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are encountering significant challenges as their Indian fast bowlers Mayank Yadav Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan have not yet received approval from the Centre of Excellence previously known as the NCA in Bengaluru.
Mayank has been sidelined due to a back stress injury since his first T20I series against Bangladesh in October 2024. According to a report from Cricbuzz Avesh is currently in rehabilitation for issues related to his knee cartilage. Following a Ranji Trophy match between Madhya Pradesh and Kerala earlier this year he was directed to the National Cricket Academy and received injections to address his condition.
There is limited information available regarding the injury of left-arm fast bowler Mohsin. His most recent participation in domestic cricket occurred on December 31 where he bowled 5.5 overs for UP in a Vijay Hazare match against Chandigarh. It remains uncertain if he will achieve full fitness in the coming weeks.
LSG has retained Mayank and Mohsin with Mayank being kept for Rs 11 crore and uncapped player Mohsin for Rs 4 crore. During the auction LSG secured Avesh for Rs 9.75 crore.
LSG is set to face Delhi Capitals (DC) in their first match of the season on March 24 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
If the three players are unavailable LSGs newly appointed captain Rishabh Pant will face a weakened pace bowling unit. The other Indian alternatives include Akash Deep Akash Singh and Prince Yadav. LSG might need to depend on their overseas player Shamar Joseph and their spin bowlers to strengthen the bowling department. Additionally Mitchell Marshs injury has posed challenges for LSG as he can only participate in the league as a batsman.
