Ace music composer AR Rahman was hospitalised today after complaining about chest pain. But are these pains always a sign of heart attack?

Oscar winning artist and music composer AR Rahman was admitted to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai in the early morning of Sunday. Earlier it was reported that he was hospitalised owing to chest discomfort. When we hear about chest pain the first association one may make is with a heart attack. But, chest pain is not always a sign of heart attack or cardiac arrest. There are other causes that may trigger the chest tightness.

Causes of Chest Pain

A sensation of uneasiness or ache between the upper belly and neck is termed as chest pain. It can come and go, be severe or light depending on the actual trigger which may or may not always be a heart attack.

When a chest pain is caused by heart condition it may be because of:

  • A blocked artery that is restricting the blood and oxygen flow.
  • An inflammation around the sac near the heart is called pericarditis which also may lead to chest pain.
  • In a rare condition, a tear in the aorta, large vessel around the heart, also triggers sensation of chest discomfort.

Sometime chest pain can be because if gastronomical issues, which is also very common:

  • Heartburn or acid reflux I considered one of the common reason behind chest pain.
  • When you are unable to swallow your food properly
  • Inflammation in the gallbladder or pancrease may trigger chest pain too

Lung health issues are anther reason behind feeling a certain mount of misery in the chest area

  • Pleuritis: A viral infection or pneumothorax may lead to pleurisy – inflammation in the chest lining or lungs. This may lead to sharp pain while sneezing or breathing.
  • Asthma, chest injuries are other issues that can potential lead to a pain in chest region.

AR Rahman Health Update

Chief Minister MK Stalin had reached out to the doctors upon hearing the news, HE shared on his X account, “As soon as I heard the news that Isaipuyal AR Rahman had been admitted to the hospital due to ill health, I contacted the doctors and inquired about his health. They said he is fine and will be back home soon.”

His son AR Ameen shared on his social media story that the music composer is doing fine and has been discharged after routine check up and test. He was hospitalised due to dehydration symptoms.
