Here a 70-year-old retired government official fell prey to a fake stock investment advertisement appearing on Facebook and lost more than Rs 5 crore in no time.
The incident started when the victim was scrolling Facebook and saw an attractive advertisement related to a stock investment. The advertisement looked completely real in which the lure of high profits was given. Without thinking much, he filled in his details and started investing money in a fake trading app.
Initially, he was allowed to withdraw small amounts, which increased his confidence and he gradually invested about Rs 4.7 crore from his wife's demat account. Initially, his profit amount was showing up to Rs 12.2 crore in the app, but when he tried to withdraw money, his account was frozen.
When he could not make any transaction even after trying several times, he realized that he had become a victim of a big fraud. After this, he immediately lodged a complaint with the police.
If an offer seems exceptionally attractive, be alert immediately. Before making any such investment, investigate it thoroughly.
