Some people usually store the leftover food in the refrigerator for later use, while others give it away. However, Chef Josh Elkin has found a different use for it. Chef Elkin, a self-proclaimed Indian food lover, took the Internet by storm when he recently shared his unusual method of dealing with leftovers, which has sparked heated discussion online.
He calls himself a “random food generator" on Instagram, and his recent Chicken Tikka Masala Cake is a proven example of his designation.
Chef Elkin began the video by saying, “Indian food is definitely one of my favourites, and I always over-order."
“You guys ask me all the time, what do you do with your leftovers? Well, I tend to make cakes out of them!" he added.

In the video, Elkin used his leftover Indian food to make Chicken Tikka Masala Cake. The layers of the cake include naan, chicken biryani, chicken tikka masala, raita, and mint yoghurt chutney. He then completely covers everything with a vibrant green yoghurt-mint chutney sauce.
He then added some onion bhaji and raw onions on top of the so-called savoury cake to offer the finishing touches. “This is a cake, and cakes have toppings. Crispy onion bhaj is good. Then, sirke wale pyaaz – those tangy, pickled red onions," Chef Elkin explained.
The final dish appeared almost too elegant to have been prepared using leftover ingredients. He exclaimed, “And that’s how I take my leftovers and turn them into cake," with a sense of fulfilment.
He continued, “Because let’s be honest – everyone wants to have their cake and eat it too," before concluding, “Nailed it."
Chef Elkin’s innovative Chicken Tikka Masala Cake received a lot of feedback online, with some internet users praising the dish’s creativity and visual appeal, while others were outright appalled.
One user commented, “As an Indian, this made me finally realise how Italians feel when spaghetti is broken."
An individual quipped, “This is worse than Rachel’s Meat Trifle."
“I’m not a violent person, but I’m going to go punch air," a user said.
Another remarked, “I don’t know if I need this or I should call the police."
One remarked, “Naan-traditional," while another added, “Straight to jail."
Another said, “The idea is great, I much prefer a savory cake to a sweet one on my birthday. I can agree that naan looks more like a pita bread haha."
“This is great. Don’t let anyone tell you any different. I would rather eat this than chocolate dosa and tea momo my guy," an account claimed.
Earlier in June 2024, Chef Josh Elkin divided the Internet with his unique chicken shawarma hummus cake. The cake had way too many ingredients, including hummus with chickpeas, jalapeno, tahini and lemon juice, fried ground chicken, garlic, salt, grapeseed oil, and lemon juice.
