Rishi Kapoor is considered one of the most prominent names in Indian cinema someone who has effortlessly won audiences hearts with his charm. However despite being a part of Indias most renowned family the late actor experienced his own share of setbacks. Some of these challenges even took a toll on his mental health.
In 1980 Rishi Kapoor starred in Subhash Ghais Karz. Despite a stellar cast and chartbusting numbers the film struggled to make an impact at the box office. Rishi Kapoor shared in his autobiography that Karzs failure hit so hard that it became difficult for him to even face the camera. According to reports he would sometimes faint on set leaving his father Raj Kapoor deeply concerned.
In his autobiography Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor Uncensored Rishi Kapoor mentioned that a week after Karzs release Qurbani hit the silver screens and became superhit. The film starred names like Vinod Khanna Feroze Khan and Zeenat Aman.
Rishi Kapoor on battling depression after Karzs failure
Rishi Kapoor mentioned in his book I lost my nerve sinking into a deep depression. I would tremble on the sets and feel faint. I’d sink into my chair go to the makeup room and ask for water. He further added I felt every ounce of confidence drain out of me. Karz had held great promise I had thought it would do wonders for my career.
Rishi Kapoor stated that the cast did great work and the film had an incredible music. I believed it would be a resounding success and earn rave reviews. When that didn’t happen I was shattered said the actor.
Apart from Rishi Karz saw Tina Munim and Simi Garewal as the leads. The film was produced by Akhtar Farooqui and Jagjit Khurana and the music was composed by the duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
