has unveiled the world's steepest cable car, located in the breathtaking Bernese Oberland, connecting the of Stechelberg to Mürren. Built as part of the Schilthornbahn 20XX project, the cable car spans a track of about 1,194 meters with an incline of 159.4%. The cable car climbs an impressive 775 meters in just four minutes and has two cabins, designed to carry up to 85 passengers each, are suspended from 11-meter-long arms to manage the steep slope.

Operating fully autonomously, the cable car is equipped with cameras and sensors for continuous monitoring, and to ensure the system runs smoothly. It has the capacity to transport up to 800 people per hour when running at full capacity.

This development marks another milestone for the Schilthorn area, which is famously known as the filming location of the 1969 James Bond film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

The cable car is part of a broader plan to overhaul the transport system leading to the summit of Schilthorn, also known as Piz Gloria, which features a 360-degree revolving restaurant with incredible panoramic views of hundreds of mountain peaks.

The restaurant, famous for its association with the Bond film, has been closed for five months but is now reopening alongside the cable car service and is thought to be the world's first revolving restaurant.

The renovation of the Schilthorn cableway began in 2023 and includes the construction of a new aerial cableway and updated stations, with a total estimated cost of £87 million.

This project will reduce the journey time from Stechelberg to the Schilthorn from 105 minutes to just an hour.

The new system is expected to be completed by spring 2026, offering a more efficient and seamless experience for visitors.

In addition to improving transport access, the project aims to enhance the tourism appeal of the region, which has been attracting visitors due to its breathtaking Alpine views and its connection to the James Bond franchise.
