Meet woman who holds largest stake in Narayana Murthy’s Infosys, not Sudha Murty, Akshata Murty, her name is….

Infosys one of India’s premier IT companies has a diversified ownership structure with contributions from institutional investors and individual stakeholders. While the Murthy family remains a significant shareholder group they are no longer the largest stakeholder in the company. That position has been taken by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). Also Sudha Murty is not the woman who holds the largest shares in Infosys but it is Sudha Gopalakrishnan. LIC: Dominant Shareholder In Infosys India’s largest life insurer LIC has emerged as the largest shareholder in Infosys. Holding a 9.531% stake equivalent to 395.77 million shares LIC’s holdings are valued at approximately Rs 8694 crore. This investment reflects LIC’s strong faith in Infosys’ long-term prospects and robust performance in the global IT sector. Other Key Institutional Investors The increasing role of institutional investors highlights Infosys’ appeal as a reliable and high-performing asset. Apart from LIC several other major institutional investors hold stakes in Infosys showcasing their confidence in the company’s innovation and global market standing. SBI Funds Management: 4.21% stake (valued at Rs 3840 crore) Who Is Sudha Gopalakrishnan? Sudha Gopalakrishnan wife of Infosys co-founder S. Gopalakrishnan holding a 2.297% stake with 95357000 shares valued at Rs 2095 crore. The couple founded the Pratiksha Trust a charity organisation that focuses on brain research. According to the Infosys website S. Gopalakrishnan serves on the Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. He is the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIIT Bangalore and is also on the Board of Trustees of the Chennai Mathematical Institute. GIC Pte Ltd.: 2.049% stake UTI Asset Management Co. Ltd.: 1.743% stake National Pension System Trust: 1.670% stake HDFC Asset Management Co. Ltd.: 1.622% stake Norges Bank Investment Management: 1.389% stake Nippon Life India Asset Management Ltd.: 1.343% stake Murthy Family’s Legacy Although LIC now holds the largest stake the Murthy family continues to maintain a significant presence in Infosys’ ownership. Rohan Murty leads the family with a 1.46% stake amounting to 6.8 crore shares. Akshata Murty owns a 1.05% stake holding 3.89 crore shares. Sudha Murty Narayana Murthy’s wife holds a 0.93% stake with 3.45 crore shares. Narayana Murthy the co-founder of Infosys has reduced his holdings to 0.36% after gifting 15 lakh shares to his grandson Ekagrah Murty in 2023. This transfer valued at Rs 240 crore gives Ekagrah a 0.04% stake in the company. LIC’s increased stake over the past year shows their confidence in the company’s future while the Murthy family also continues to hold a legacy stake.
