Rajesh Khanna is often called the first superstar of Bollywood. He may not be in this world now but his fans still remember him. People were crazy about his acting they were waiting patiently for his new films to arrive on the big screens. The actor enjoyed the stardom among people however the actor is widely known for starring in films like Anand Amar Prem Bawarchi Aradhana Ittefaq and the list goes on. But this was the film which gave Bollywood its first superstar in the form of Rajesh Khanna.
Let us tell you the film which we are talking about is none other than Aakhri Khat released in 1966 which. Wwritten and directed by Chetan Anand Rajesh Khanna started his career with this film. The popular melody Baharon Mera Jeevan Bhi Sanvaro was sung by Lata Mangeshkar was an instant hit. Now you must be wondering that why the film proved to be a flop and how did it create a history.
Let us tell you that even though this film proved to be a flop at the box office it later emerged as a cult classic and in 1967 it was sent in the Best Foreign Language category for the 40th Oscar Awards although it did not get any nomination but there was a lot of discussion about this film across the country. Despite being a flop the film was made 3 times in the South. This film was made in Tamil as Poonthalir in 1979 starring Shivkumar and Sujatha and in Telugu as Chinnari Chitti Babu in 1981.
It is a lesser known fact that in 1974 Rajesh Khannas film was made in Turkey as Garip Kus. The story of the film was based on a man named Govind Bali (Rajesh Khanna) who is a sculptor. While holidaying near Kullu he sees Lajjo (Indrani Mukherjee) and falls in love with her. After this they get secretly married in a village temple. Then he has to go to the city to further his education.
Meanwhile Lajjo finds out that she is pregnant. Upon finding this out her stepmother sells her for Rs 500 where she is beaten up. After some time she gives birth to a little boy named Bantu. Later Lajjo comes to Mumbai to meet Govind with her one-year-old son. She leaves a letter for him at his door and wants to leave the baby with him as well. However she is unable to do so so she takes Bantu with her. They wander around and eat whatever comes their way but soon she dies leaving her son alone.
