Many actresses in the Bollywood industry have left a deep mark on the audience remaining unforgettable even decades after leaving the industry. Today we are going to talk about an actress who once ruled Bollywood and became one of the most successful actresses in the industry. Over the course of her career she worked with many big names such as Raj Kapoor Dilip Kumar Dharmendra and more. If you are wondering who we are talking about the actress in discussion is the legendary Suchitra Sen. The Mahanayika of Indian Cinema Suchitra is regarded as one of the finest actors in Indian cinema. She began her acting journey with Bengali cinema in 1952. Two years later in 1955 she transitioned to Hindi cinema. Over her three-decade-long career she delivered several superhits particularly with superstar Uttam Kumar. Suchitra starred in films like Devdas Aandhi Bambai Ka Babu and Mamta. One of her films Aandhi received massive acclaim from the audience. However her 1978 film Pranay Pasha failed at the box office. Her husbands death in 1970 deeply affected her yet she continued acting. However after Pranay Pasha she announced her retirement turning down Satyajit Ray’s Devi Chaudharani and leaving Nati Binodini (opposite Rajesh Khanna) unfinished. She withdrew from public life spending most of her time in seclusion at her home in Calcutta avoiding public appearances and dedicating herself to the Ramakrishna Mission. In 2005 Sen was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award India’s highest cinematic honor. However she refused to step into the public eye. In January 2014 the legendary actress passed away in a Kolkata hospital at the age of 82 after battling a lung infection.
