Kou Kok Yiow, chairman of Bamboo Capital Group, passed away from a heart attack on March 8 at the age of 63, the company announced on Monday.
His funeral was held in Singapore, with Bamboo Capital stating that it was only informed of his passing last Saturday.
Born in 1962 in Singapore, Kou held a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the National University of Singapore. He was a long-time figure at Bamboo Capital, having been involved since the company’s early days as an advisor and supervisory board member. He also held over 381,700 BCG shares.
Apart from his role at Bamboo Capital, Kou served as a director at multinational financial investment firm Harvest Global Investment. He was elected chairman of Bamboo Capital on April 27, 2024, succeeding Nguyen Ho Nam, and actively participated in all 45 board meetings since taking office. The company has not yet named his successor.
The firm and its subsidiaries have undergone several senior leadership changes recently. In late February, it appointed a new CEO, Ho Viet Thuy, following the resignation of the previous one.
Its property development arm, BCG Land, has dismissed CEO Nguyen Thanh Hung, effective March 20, to allow him to focus on his role as the conglomerate’s vice chairman.
Earlier this month, the group reported that authorities had issued a decision to prosecute Nam, and he no longer holds any positions on the board of directors, the supervisory board, or the executive team.
Founded in 2011, Bamboo Capital is a multi-sector conglomerate operating in real estate, construction, infrastructure, and renewable energy.
Last year, the company posted revenues of over VND4.37 trillion (US$171.2 million), a net profit of VND845 billion, and over VND46.52 trillion in assets.
