Huijsen has been one of the standout performers in Andoni Iraola‘s side since he established himself in the backline in December.

The 19-year-old, who arrived from Juventus last summer, has made 16 consecutive Premier League starts having formed a strong central defensive partnership with Ilya zabarnyi.

Huijsen was initially called up to the Spain Under-21s squad, before it was announced on Monday that he will replace the injured Inigo Martinez in the senior side.

The Dutch-born defender will hope to make his international debut in Spain’s two-legged affair against the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals.

Real Madrid step up Huijsen interest

It seems that one team in particular will pay close attention to Huijsen’s performances if he features against Ronald Koeman‘s side.

According to The SunReal Madrid scouts will take a close look at the highly-rated Bournemouth defender in the coming days.

Los Blancos were already known to be among Huijsen’s potential suitors, with Carlo Ancelotti‘s set to face competition from a number of Premier League clubs.

Arsenal and Manchester United are believed to be in the race for Huijsen’s signature, while Newcastle United have also been mooted as a potential destination for the former Juventus man.

Why are Real Madrid targeting Huijsen?

Los Blancos are seemingly view Huijsen as someone who could help them in their mission to refresh their backline, with Antonio Rudiger and David praises both in their 30s.

At 19, Huijsen has the potential and ability to become a mainstay in the Real Madrid defence for the long-term future.

Real Madrid are also aware they need to add further depth to their defence after seeing their lack of options exposed by injuries to Alaba and Oeder Militao this season.

As well as Huijsen, Real Madrid are considering Evertoncentre-back Jarrad Branthwaite as a possible transfer target for the summer window.
