If a person does not apply for renewal within one year of the expiry date of the driving license, then such a driving license is considered canceled.

Driving licenses in India are issued for a maximum of 40 years. After their validity expires, you have to apply for renewal. If you do not do this, your license can also be permanently cancelled.

However, even after the expiry date of the driving license, time is given to renew it. You are given 30 days to renew the driving license after the expiry date.

If you renew within 30 days of DL expiry, no extra charge is taken from you. A fee of Rs 400 is charged for renewal within the stipulated time.

If you do not apply for renewal within 30 days, then you have to pay late fee. If you renew your driving license after one month of its expiry date, you will have to pay Rs 1500.

According to the Motor Vehicle Act, if a person does not apply for renewal within one year of the expiry date of the driving license, then such driving license is considered canceled.

Once your driving license is canceled, if you get it made again, then you will have to go through the entire process again, only after which you will get the DL.
