Bad Bryan Gil injury, angry Manor Solomon, Yang disappointment and Josh Keeley stuns
Football March 18, 2025 07:39 AM

Tottenham faced a mixed week with European joy and Premier League despair and their loan players have enjoyed similarly mixed experiences over the past seven days.

have sent out 13 players on loan across clubs in various levels of the Football League as well as to teams in Scotland, Spain and Belgium. There is also Luka Vuskovic, who will make the trip across officially this summer to join Tottenham after turning 18, having been loaned from Hajduk Split to Westerlo in the Jupiler Pro League for this campaign.

It's time for football.london to take a look at how all 14 Tottenham players, including the young Croatian centre-back, played this week.

Bryan Gil (Girona)

's season looks to be over at Girona after a knee injury, with a decision to be made over whether he requires surgery or not. At first it appeared to be a strain but reports in Spain now claim there has been damage to the lateral ligament in the 24-year-old's right knee and the meniscus.

Girona head coach Michel Sanchez said on Saturday after a home draw against Valencia that Gil was forced to miss: "Bryan has a knee injury and tomorrow he must speak to Dr. Cugat. We will see if an operation is necessary or not. If he has to have surgery, he could miss the entire season. But if not, this Sunday will be the last tests and we will see. Cugat will make the decision with the player. It doesn't look good, although I think there is still a lack of evidence."

During his loan spell, the Spaniard had played 33 times this season for Girona with four goals and three assists.

Yang Min-hyeok (QPR)

For the first time, Yang Min-hyeok had to watch a QPR game from the bench as he remained unused in their 2-2 draw at Loftus Road against Leeds United.

The 18-year-old had played in every game before that but found himself an observer at the weekend, after having been taken off at half-time in midweek in Tuesday night's 2-1 defeat at Middlesbrough.

Yang received a five in West London Sport's player ratings for that performance with a disappointing review: "Replaced at the interval after a woeful first-half showing in which he gave the ball away on several occasions, one of which lead to the first goal."

His side getting a point without him against Leeds might mean the South Korean has to watch on again when QPR travel to Stoke City after the international break.

Manor Solomon (Leeds United)

Yang's Tottenham team-mate did play in the game against QPR for Leeds and got 84 minutes to his name in the draw at Loftus Road, having played 87 minutes on Wednesday night as Leeds got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory against Millwall.

Solomon was a thorn in the side of the QPR backline all day and was involved in both of the Leeds goals. The 25-year-old was not happy at being taken off by Daniel Farke late in the game. Leeds Live reported that when he was brought off for Largie Ramazani on 84 minutes "the Israeli gestured angrily to the bench with his arms out stretched and took his frustration out on a corner flag as he made his way round, having been told to exit the pitch at the nearest point".

It meant Solomon has been taken off in each of his past 12 matches and has not provided a goal or assist during that time, although he technically forced an own goal against Millwall.

Farke said after the draw: "Manor is always unhappy when he doesn't play the full game. I quite like this attitude."

Solomon received an eight in Leeds Live's player ratings with the review: "Gave QPR defence a tough afternoon with his dribbles and deliveries, and provided the cross for United's first half goal before his close-range shot led to Bogle's leveller. Unhappy to be taken off."

Alfie Devine and Luka Vuskovic (Westerlo)

continued his return from his hamstring injury as the 20-year-old came off the bench for another half hour of football in the 2-1 win at bottom side Beerschot that pushed Westerlo up to ninth place in the Jupiler Pro League.

, who turned 18 last month, played the full game at centre-back. It was a huge result for Westerlo because it was the final day of the regular season in the Belgian league, and by finishing that stage in ninth, Devine and Vuskovic's side avoid the relegation play-offs for the teams in 13th to 16th.

In fact, Westerlo now have a play-off chance with the teams in the middle of the table over the weekend ahead to earn a Europa Conference League spot for next season.

Alejo Veliz (Espanyol)

was an unused substitute in Espanyol's 2-1 defeat at Mallorca on Saturday but he did come on for the final minute of the 1-1 draw at Girona in midweek, which looks to be his Spurs team-mate Gil's last game of the season.

The 21-year-old striker has not exactly set La Liga alight yet with snippets of game time here and there. The Argentine has made 23 appearances in all this season for Espanyol, scoring four times with one of those coming in La Liga, and played just 946 minutes in the league.

Will Lankshear (West Bromwich Albion)

got some minutes to his name this week with 16 of them from the bench in the 1-1 draw at Burnley and another four minutes at the weekend in the 1-1 draw with Hull City at home.

That's now six appearances for the 19-year-old in the Championship as he continues to build up his experience of senior football. Lankshear will be hoping to get more minutes to catch the eye after the international break when the Baggies make the trip to Carrow Road to face Norwich on March 29.

Ashley Phillips (Stoke City)

racked up two more 90 minute-displays, first helping Stoke keep a clean sheet in a 1-0 home win against his old club Blackburn in midweek, but then losing by the same scoreline at Millwall on Saturday.

The 19-year-old emerged with credit from the defeat, though, as Stoke-on-Trent Live handed him a six in their player ratings with the review: "Strong in the challenge and picked out some smart passes from defence. Marked his men when Millwall threw everything at them. He was so frustrated at full-time."

Phillips has played 30 times for Stoke this season, scoring one terrific goal with a back flick in the Carabao Cup earlier in the campaign.

Jamie Donley and Josh Keeley (Leyton Orient)

put in a big performance between the sticks as Leyton Orient won 2-1 at Blackpool on Saturday. The 21-year-old made seven saves, recovered the ball 11 times, made two clearances and touched the ball 57 times during the encounter.

The young Spurs keeper made a string of stunning point blank reaction stops to help Orient to a much-needed victory which arrested their recent slump and the Irishman was handed the man of the match award after the game and got into the EFL Team of the Week.

His Spurs team-mate came off the bench for the final 30 minutes of the match to help Richie Wellens' side to all three points.

Alfie Dorrington (Aberdeen)

was handed his first start in the Scottish Premiership in six weeks and played his part in helping Aberdeen keep a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw at St Johnstone.

The 19-year-old centre-back is starting to rack up the minutes now with 427 across eight matches in his first loan move, having made his Premier League debut for Spurs back in December late on in the win at Southampton.

Matthew Craig (Mansfield Town)

continues to miss out on Mansfield's matches in League One. The 21-year-old had been back on the bench for Town late last month after missing their past seven league games with a back issue. However, he has not been included since and has only played 33 minutes for the club since switching from Barnsley in the winter window.

His manager Nigel Clough explained this month that Craig now has a hamstring injury but is making progress on his return from that.

George Abbott (Notts County)

George Abbott's busy week brought mixed fortunes in League Two with Notts County. The 19-year-old midfielder played 90 minutes as County won 2-0 at Grimsby Town in midweek but then played the full game again as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Chesterfield.

Notts County sit fifth in the table and Abbott has been a key ingredient in their success, playing almost every minute of every game since he arrived from Tottenham. Saturday's performance made it 2,920 minutes in all competitions across 34 appearances for the teenager and he has contributed five goals and five assists during those games.

Luca Gunter (Wealdstone)

Luca Gunter had plenty to do on Saturday as National League strugglers Wealdstone drew 3-3 at home with Eastleigh.

Gunter has made 10 league appearances so far for the non-league outfit and has conceded 23 goals during a season full of new experiences for the 19-year-old.
