Rang panchami 2025: Ranga Panchami is a Hindu festival observed on Phalguna Krishna Paksha Panchami, the fifth day of the waning phase of the Hindu month of Phalguna. It falls five days after Holi and is celebrated with the joyous tradition of sprinkling or smearing coloured powder, much like Holi.
According to Drik Panchang, Rang Panchami in 2025 will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 19. The Panchami Tithi begins at 10:09 PM on March 18, 2025, and ends at 12:36 AM on March 20, 2025.
The story behind Rang Panchami is connected to Lord Shiva and Kamadeva. As per Hindu mythology, Kamadeva, the god of love, tried to wake Shiva from deep meditation using his flowered arrows.
But Shiva, angered by the disturbance, opened his third eye and reduced Kamadeva to ashes. Seeing this, Kamadeva’s wife, Rati, along with other gods, pleaded for his return.
Moved by their devotion, Shiva revived Kamadeva, but only in a spiritual form. To celebrate, the gods played with colours – marking the origin of Rang Panchami.
This festival symbolises the triumph of divine energy over negativity and the restoration of balance.
Rang Panchami is more than just a festival of colours – it holds deep religious and spiritual meaning. It represents the victory over negative energies and pays tribute to the five elements of nature: fire, earth, water, air and space.
Many believe that offering colours to deities during this festival brings blessings and prosperity.
