There are several models who ventured into acting after working in ad shoots and as films. Priyanka Chopra Aishwarya Rai Sushmita Sen Lara Dutta have been pageant queens who made India proud and eventually found their groove in the film industry. While the success of some these beauty queens is through the roof and counting some of the them disappeared in the light. One such name is Tanushree Dutta. She was crowned Miss Indian in 2004. Next she represented Indi at Miss Universe in Eucador but attained the sixth runner up place. She made her acting debut in 2005 with Aashiq Banaya Aapne starring Sonu Sood and Emraan Hashmi. The film did well on the box office. The film contains one intimate scene between Emraan Hashmi and Tanushree Dutta. This became a breakthrough moment for the actress an she gaoned critical acclaim for her performance. She also made her debut in Telugu industry signed movies like Chocolate Bhagam Bhag Dhol Good Boy Bad Boy etc. She had a cameo appearance for as song in Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor starrer 36 China Town. The #MeToo Controversy The #MeToo movement grew momentum in India in a2018 and it is when Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her on the sets of Horn Ok Pleassss. She first came out with it in 2008 but her complain was not heeded. After a series of court hearings in 2019 Patekar was cleared of the charges. Ever after the controversy blew out Duttas screen presence witnessed a decline. In October 2024 speaking with News 18 she addressed the issue stating In December 2018 I was offered a movie by a very big producer. She has made some of the biggest films. But her director was a #MeToo accused and I promptly refused the opportunity. Who’s losing in this bargain? Me. I haven’t done film work in a long long time. Dutta explained how she declined big projects and good work as she was hardbound on her principles. In another incident she recalled how she said no to Bengali film as the director seemingly wanted to white wash the image. Why did he come to me? He thought that #MeToo ko kaafi time ho gaya hai and that if he casts me in his film it will give the impression that I’m siding with him. He wanted to change his image through me... If I did that film it would look like the leader of #MeToo is now supporting an accused. I politely refused. There was an agency involved. I told them that I want to let the film go. I even consulted my dad to get his opinion on the matter and he told me that it wouldn’t be ethically right to take up a film with someone who is an accused she added.
