If you use UPI for digital payments, you need to pay attention! Starting April 1, 2025, banks will begin deactivating UPI and banking services linked to inactive mobile numbers. If your number has been inactive for a long time, you may lose access to UPI platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm.

Why Are Banks Disabling UPI Services?

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has instructed banks and UPI service providers to remove inactive or recycled mobile numbers by March 31, 2025. This move aims to prevent transaction failures and security risks associated with outdated numbers.

📌 What is an inactive mobile number?
If a mobile number has not been used for calls, SMS, or data for 90 days, telecom operators may reassign it to a new user. If such numbers remain linked to bank accounts and UPI IDs, they can create security issues and failed transactions.

What Happens After April 1?

Banks will remove inactive numbers from their systems every week
UPI services linked to such numbers will be disabled automatically
Users may face transaction failures if their number is no longer active

How to Keep Your UPI & Banking Services Active?

Ensure your mobile number is active – Make calls or send an SMS to keep it in use
Recharge your SIM card if inactive for a long time
Update your bank records if you have changed your primary number
Link your UPI ID with an active number to avoid disruptions

Final Warning!

If your mobile number is inactive and linked to your bank account or UPI ID, your digital payment services may stop from April 1. Act now to avoid inconvenience!
