Man Utd reveal first pre-season game against fierce rivals as Ruben Amorim plans take shape

Manchester United have confirmed a pre-season friendly against Leeds United this summer. Ruben Amorim's side will face off against their long-time rivals in Stockholm in July as the club's plans take shape.

The 50,000-seater Strawberry Arena will host the meeting on Saturday 19 July. Leeds will hope to be a side by the time the fixture rolls around and currently sit atop the Championship table, level on points with Sheffield United and just two points ahead of third-place .

The summer will afford Amorim his first opportunity to truly implement his methods with time spent on the training pitch, having seen a hectic schedule following his arrival in November. And one of the 40-year-old's earliest opportunities to assess his side's development will come against the club's historic rivals.

United and Leeds have previously met in Scandinavia and enjoyed successful pre-season matches in Norway in 2015 and 2023. They have never played each other in Sweden however.

It was Norway that saw the Red Devil's first pre-season friendly aheadof 2024/25. Erik ten Hag's side fell to defeat against Rosenborg at the Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim on July 15, with the club having been linked to the team's teen star Sverre Nypan.

Organisers are hopeful that the Strawberry Arena will host a sell-out crowd for the fixture. The game precedes United's plans for the rest of the summer.

The club have already announced they will visit the United States once again, and the club will participate in the Premier League Summer Series. United will enjoy three fixtures against familiar opposition.

United first line up against United in New Jersey, before travelling to Chicago's Soldier Field to take on . The trip will be rounded off with the side's first match in Georgia, when they take on in Atlanta at the Merecedes-Benz Stadium.
