There may be a change in the schedule of the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants to be held on April 6 at Eden Gardens here. The police have not approved the match given security due to Ram Navami celebrations. Bengal Cricket Association (CAB) President Snehasish Ganguly has confirmed after two rounds of talks with the local police that the police have not yet permitted this match.
Snehasish Ganguly said, 'It will be impossible to manage a crowd of 65 thousand spectators without police security. We have informed the BCCI.' Last year also, the schedule of the KKR-Rajasthan match to be held on Ram Navami was changed. A good number of spectators are expected to come to the match between KKR and Lucknow. At the same time, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had earlier announced that more than 20,000 processions would be taken out in West Bengal on Ram Navami, due to which the need for security has increased across the state.
Last season, the IPL match between KKR and Rajasthan Royals was also rescheduled due to security concerns on Ram Navami. The 2025 IPL season will begin on March 22 at Eden Gardens, with defending champions KKR taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore. The match will be preceded by a 35-minute grand opening ceremony, in which famous singer Shreya Ghoshal and actress Disha Patani may be seen performing.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah and other dignitaries are also likely to attend the event. Snehasish refused to give detailed information about the opening ceremony and said, "This is a big match, for which there is a huge demand for tickets. Eden Gardens is going to host the opening ceremony after a long time."
