Tanmay Srivastava, member of the 2008 U19 World Cup-winning team under Virat Kohli, is set to become the first player to feature in the Indian Premier League as a player and an umpire.
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) on Tuesday confirmed that Tanmay will be officiating during the upcoming IPL 2025. Tanmay is affliated with the UPCA.
Tanmay played for Punjab Kings during the 2008 and 2009 seasons, known as Kings XI Punjab then. However, he only batted thrice across the two seasons, scoring only eight runs. He was also a part of Deccan Chargers, which was later changed to Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the following seasons but did not play for them.
Tanmay, a left-handed batter, played a key role in India’s U19 title win in 2008. He was the highest run-scorer in the tournament with 262 runs from six innings at an average of 52. He also scored a vital 46-run innings in the final against South Africa.
Across domestic cricket, Tanmay made 90 first-class, 44 List A, and 34 T20 appearances for Uttar Pradesh, amassing more than 7,000 runs across the three formats.
Since hanging up his boots in 2020, Tanmay has been an umpire at several domestic competitions, including the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Ranji Trophy.
