The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for several states, including Delhi, as temperatures are expected to rise significantly across northern and western India. While the national capital is currently experiencing temperatures in the low 30s, the weather agency has forecast that it could reach as high as 40°C by the end of March. This will mark the season’s first major heatwave.
The IMD has issued a heatwave travel advisory for the National Capital Region and other states, urging residents and travellers in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar to prepare for extremely high temperatures. Due to rising temperatures, it is recommended that residents and visitors stay hydrated, wear light cotton clothing, and avoid outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the afternoon.
