Alka Yagnik one of the renowned names in the singing industry has turned a year older today. Her voice is loved by millions. Over the years Alka has lent her voice to many songs in several hit films. Alka gave her melodious voice to many songs in the 90s such as Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai Baazigar O Baazigar Raah Mein Unse Mulaqat Ho Gayi Taal Se Taal Mila and more. While Alka’s professional front made headlines her personal life was also under public glare. Alka married Shillong-based businessman Neeraj Kapoor in 1989. After the wedding the duo was blessed with a daughter whom they named Syesha Kapoor. Do you know that it has been 25 years since Alka has been living away from her husband? Yes you read that right! According to media reports she has been in a long-distance marriage for more than 25 years. Reports claim that after marriage Neeraj who was earlier based in Shillong came to Mumbai to start a new life with Alka. However his business suffered a lot of losses and the Kapoors had to return to Shillong. Since then the duo has been living away from each other. However the love remains intact. Coming to Alkas professional front the singer started singing at the age of six. Yagniks mother was an Indian classical singer. In 1972 Alka Yagnik started singing for Akashvani (All India Radio) in Calcutta at the age of six. At the age of 10 her mother brought her to Mumbai where she was exposed to more opportunities. Interestingly Alka was introduced to Raj Kapoor through a Kolkata acquaintance. Upon hearing Alka’s voice Kapoor referred her to music director Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar. After her meeting with the music director Alka was given two choices: either she starts dubbing right away or waits and becomes a singer directly. Alka’s mother wanted her daughter to be a singer and so she did. Alka Yagnik first started singing bhajans. She sang her first song in the 1980 film Payal Ki Jhankar. Alka Yagnik sang the song Ek Do Teen from the film Tezaab. For this she received the Filmfare Award for Best Singer and never looked back.
