The BCCI on Thursday lifted the ban on the use of saliva on the ball in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The board took this decision after the consent of the captains of 10 teams. The ICC had banned applying saliva on the ball to shine it during Corona. The IPL also continued the ban. News agency PTI quoted a top BCCI official as saying - This decision was taken in the captains' meeting in Mumbai. The ban on saliva has been lifted. Most of the captains were in favor of this move.

The rule was made during Corona.
The guidelines of the IPL are beyond the jurisdiction of the ICC. According to a BCCI official, applying saliva on the ball was common before Corona. Now that there is no threat of Corona, there is no harm in lifting the ban on applying saliva on the ball in the IPL. Earlier, experienced Indian team fast bowler Mohammed Shami had urged the ICC to allow the use of saliva on the ball. Due to the ban on the use of saliva, fast bowlers were facing difficulty in getting reverse swing. BCCI has now approved this.

Shami had raised the demand to lift the ban.

Mohammad Shami had said that there is a need to apply saliva on the ball otherwise it will be completely in favor of the batsmen. Shami said, 'We try to reverse swing, but you cannot use saliva on the ball. We are constantly seeking permission to use saliva and reverse swing will make the game interesting.'
