Indian Railways is the fourth largest railway network in the world, with crores of people traveling every day, which is not only economical but also safe. But booking train tickets can sometimes be a hassle, especially when the trains are very crowded, and the route requires reservations months in advance. Many times you may have to cancel the ticket after booking it. But do you know the rules for canceling train tickets in India? If not, then let us tell you about these rules-
1. Cancellation policy for waiting and RAC tickets
If you have booked a waiting or RAC (reservation against cancellation) ticket, you will have to pay a cancellation fee if you decide to cancel it. The charges are as follows:
Cancellation Fee: Rs. 60
2. Cancellation Policy for Tatkal Tickets
Tatkal tickets are often a better option for last-minute travel, when regular tickets are not available. However, Tatkal tickets come with a strict no-refund policy:
Refund Policy: No refund will be given if you cancel a Tatkal ticket.
3. Cancellation of Confirmed Tickets
If you have a confirmed ticket and need to cancel it, you can do so up to 48 hours before the scheduled departure.
AC First Class: Rs 240
AC Two-Tier: Rs 200
Sleeper Class: Rs 120
Two-Seater (Second Sitting): Rs 60
AC Three-Tier and AC Chair Car: Rs 100 Rs 180
4. Refund in case of train cancellation
There are certain circumstances when you may be eligible for a full refund:
In case of floods: If the train is cancelled due to floods, you will get a full refund. Make sure you cancel the ticket within three days of the scheduled journey.
Cancellation by Indian Railways: If the train is canceled by Indian Railways more than 12 hours before departure, a 25% refund will be issued.
12 to 4 hours before departure: If you cancel the ticket within this time frame, 50% of the ticket price will be refunded.
