The film industry is known for its glamour and fame but it can also be unpredictable and dangerous. One of the most shocking incidents occurred in 2008 - a brutal murder that shook the entire entertainment world. This is the chilling story of 26-year-old television executive Neeraj Grover who was murdered in May 2008. Kannada actress Maria Susairaj and her fiance Lieutenant Emile Jerome Mathew were arrested for the crime making it one of Indias most gruesome murder cases.
Who was Neeraj Grover?
Neeraj Grover was a television executive working for Synergy Adlabs a Mumbai-based production house. Originally from Kishni a small town in Uttar Pradesh he moved to Mumbai to establish his career in the television industry. He worked as a creative executive director on Shah Rukh Khans show Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? and was also involved in auditions for the television series Mahabharat.
During this time Neeraj met Kannada actress Maria Susairaj and over time they developed a close bond. However this connection ultimately led to his tragic death.
The Missing of Neeraj Grover
One day Neeraj went to help Maria shift into her new apartment in Mumbai but after that he was never seen again. Days turned into weeks but there was no trace of him.
Maria was engaged to Emile Jerome Mathew a naval officer posted in Cochin. He suspected Maria of having a close relationship with Neeraj which made him extremely possessive. On the night of May 6 2008 Neeraj was at Maria’s apartment helping her settle in. When Matthew called Maria and found out that Neeraj was there he asked her to make him leave. However he sensed that Neeraj would be staying overnight which enraged him.
How Was Neeraj Grover Murdered?
On the morning of May 7 2008 around 7 AM Maria’s doorbell rang multiple times. When she opened the door she was shocked to see Matthew standing there. He stormed into the apartment and found Neeraj inside. A heated argument broke out between the two men which quickly turned violent. In a fit of rage Matthew grabbed a kitchen knife and repeatedly stabbed Neeraj killing him on the spot.
After the murder Maria went out and purchased two duffel bags bedsheets curtains and a knife. She and Matthew then cut Neeraj’s body into multiple pieces placed them in the bags and cleaned the apartment to remove any evidence. Maria borrowed a neighbor’s car and at around 4:30 PM the same day the couple drove out of Mumbai. On their way they bought petrol and set Neeraj’s remains on fire in a secluded area before returning to the city late at night.
Eventually Maria confessed her involvement in the crime leading to her arrest along with Matthew. Maria served a three-year sentence while Matthew was also convicted based on her confession.
