Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi appears to be the top target with a deal believed to be at an advanced stage ahead of the summer.

The Spaniard has previously turned down Arsenal along with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool. With another addition likely need, Guimaraes could be the chosen target having again impressed this season while also guiding Newcastle to Carabao Cup glory.

The two Premier League stars are regulars for Brazil and have started in midfield and defence respectively for the last three games. With that in mind, Arteta will surely have another opportunity to see how Guimaraes gets on with Gabriel behind him as that would likely be the chosen set-up if he joined Arsenal.

That game against Colombia is set for the early hours of Friday morning where a win for Brazil would see them go above their opponents. Guimaraes has been linked with a summer move to Arsenal and Manchester City.

Though Newcastle have just won a trophy, the former Lyon man will likely want to be back playing Champions League football.
