New Delhi: The Kolkata Knight Riders match against the Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 will be relocated to Guwahati as local police have indicated they cannot ensure security for the IPL event due to Ram Navami festivities taking place in the city on that day according to CAB President Snehasish Gangulys statements to PTI on Thursday. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari mentioned that over 20000 processions are planned throughout West Bengal for the celebration. Ganguly noted that they have informed the BCCI about the need to reschedule the match but it seems there is no possibility of holding it in Kolkata later leading to the decision to move it to Guwahati.
The match between KKR and LSG which is owned by RPSG Group chairman Sanjiv Goenka was anticipated to attract a full audience as both teams have significant local backing.
An official announcement from the IPL has not been released yet.
In the 2024 season the IPL match between KKR and Rajasthan Royals was postponed because adequate security measures were not in place for Ram Navami.
I had several rounds of talks with the Kolkata Police and they said they wont be able to provide enough security on that day Snehasish added.
If theres no police protection accommodating and managing a 65000-strong crowd becomes impossible Snehasish had said on Tuesday.
