New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin is set to have a street named in his honor. Ashwin concluded his international cricket career following the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 held at the Gabba in Brisbane. Ashwin enjoyed a distinguished international career taking 765 wickets in various formats making him the second-highest wicket-taker among Indian players following Anil Kumbles 953. Additionally he contributed as a lower-order batsman in Test cricket achieving six centuries three of which were scored at his home ground in Chennai. On March 21 it was revealed that Ravichandran Ashwin will have a street named in his honor to recognize his achievements in cricket. The street where Ashwin currently resides Ramakrishnapuram 1st Street in West Mambalam will be renamed by The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC). A proposal has been submitted to rename either his residential street or Arya Gowda Road in his honor. After consideration the GCC has opted to proceed with renaming the former. A ceremony to mark the occasion may be held in the near future. Ravichandran Ashwin to play for Chennai Super Kings after 10 years Ravichandran Ashwin has made his way back to the Chennai Super Kings the team where his IPL career began. The 38-year-old first joined the league in 2010 contributing significantly to the teams championship victories that year and the following one. After the Chennai Super Kings faced a ban from the IPL starting in 2016 Ashwin went on to play for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant as well as the Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals. Ashwin was signed by the Tamil Nadu franchise for ₹9.75 crores. The team which has won the IPL five times successfully competed against Royal Challengers Bengaluru Rajasthan Royals Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings to bring him back as a Super King. He currently holds 90 wickets and aims to become a part of CSKs history by reaching 100 wickets this season with 10 more.
