BBC Morning Live host rushed to medics after suffering 'serious' fall live on air

Gethin Jones of took a dramatic tumble in the latter stages of his roller disco skate-a-thon for , prompting medical staff to rush to his aid. Alongside , Gethin was decked out in full spandex to endure a grueling 24-hour Wheely Big Challenge to raise money for charity.

Despite almost having to bow out just thirty minutes before completing the fundraiser at 10am today, Gethin powered through his "serious" fall, as described by host Sara Cox on this morning's show: "Now, this is really horrible. Gethin has just had - this is really serious - a massive fall. Look at this."

Sara added with concern that Gethin's the fall derailed his finish: "He's so stiff anyway and just seized up. Genuinely it was make-or-break whether he could finish the challenge but he's determined the get to that finish line." He was later pictured behind the scenes with medics surrounding the presenter as he clutched his knee in agony.

By Friday morning, the dynamic duo had impressively raised around £500,000 with their Red Nose Day efforts. However, this isn't Gethin's first brush with injury on wheels, after he recounted past mishaps that included getting a concussion and breaking his arm not once, but twice while ice skating.

Acknowledging initial fears over his current challenge, Gethin shared how the friendship between him and Helen was put to an endearing test: "What's different this time is that we have each other," expressing the strength of their bond, he reflects, "We're best friends. We're very honest with one another," reports .

"I'm interested to see how we cope and how we help each other," he said. "We'll need to. Seeing people leave and come back refreshed is going to be a test."

Earlier this year, Gethin opened up about being diagnosed with high cholesterol, revealing on Morning Live: "I got diagnosed recently. We know it can cause heart disease in the future and strokes as well.

"It's something you've really got to take seriously. I just had so many questions! I felt really uneducated."

With Comic Relief's live show airing tonight, Helen and Gethin aren't the only celebs taking part in a challenge - with Jamie Laing tackling five Ultra Marathons which end today.

Jamie was due to appear on ITV's Lorraine on Friday, however was forced to pull out after falling behind in the race.

Christine announced on the show today: "Jamie was supposed to be speaking to us but there are various issues going on right now."

Lucie Cave then revealed: "We were hoping to speak to him at the end but he hasn't quite made it yet. He's been in real pain, very emotional and overwhelmed. He's done an amazing job and he's raised £1m so far. He'll be so pleased with that."
