Matheus Cunha has been handed an additional one-game ban and fined £50,000 after admitting a charge of “acting in an improper manner” following his recent dismissal at Bournemouth.

The Wolves forward was shown a straight red card in the closing stages of extra time in an tie at the Vitality Stadium earlier this month for grabbing Milos Kerkez around the neck before he appeared to punch and kick the Cherries defender. After referee Sam Barrott had dismissed Cunha, the Brazilian then remonstrated with Wolves boss Vitor Pereira and pushed team-mate Dan Bentley as he was ushered towards the changing room.

Cunha has already missed the home draw with Everton and last week’s win at Southampton as part of his initial three-match ban, but he will now also sit out the trip to Ipswich as well as the visit of West Ham. It means Cunha will return to the Wolves squad for the clash against on April 13.

A Football Association statement read: “An independent Regulatory Commission has imposed a one-match suspension and £50,000 fine on Matheus Cunha. The Wolverhampton Wanderers forward was charged with acting in an improper manner after he was sent off around the 121st minute of their FA Cup tie against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, March 1.

“The player subsequently admitted the charge. The Regulatory Commission imposed his sanctions following a hearing, and its written reasons for them will be published in due course.

“Matheus Cunha will now be suspended from domestic football until Sunday 13th April.”

Wolves added: “The suspension means the Brazilian will be absent from Vitor Pereira’s squad for the Premier League matches against West Ham United and Ipswich Town, before returning ahead of the top-flight fixture with Tottenham Hotspur at Molineux.”

Cunha’s suspension is his second this season. He was banned for two matches in December after he clashed with a member of Ipswich’s staff at the end of a 2-1 home Premier League defeat.
