The much-anticipated Malayalam film ‘ L2: Empuraan ’, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran , has set the box office on fire with its advance bookings .

Surpasses the biggies ‘Jawan’, ‘Leo’, and ‘Kalki: 2898 AD’

Prithviraj Sukumaran took to his Twitter handle to share that ‘Empuraan’ has achieved the feat of being the highest hourly pre-sales ever in Indian cinema. His Tweet read, “The Highest Hourly Pre-Sales Ever in Indian Cinemas on BOOKMYSHOW 96.14K/Hr #Empuraan #L2E.”

Within just one hour of ticket sales opening on BookMyShow, the film recorded a staggering 96.14K tickets sold, outpacing the likes of Jawan, Kalki 2898 AD, Leo, and Pathaan.

Bookings for L2: Empuraan began at 9 AM on March 21, and by 10:30 AM, reports indicated that ticket sales had touched nearly 96K per hour. This feat places the film among the fastest-selling Indian films in terms of advance booking. Most of these sales have come from Kerala, where the film enjoys massive anticipation.

Mohanlal also shared a snap on Twitter with ‘Empuraan’ director where they are see jetting off for promotions. His caption read, “Taking off like our advance bookings! #L2E #Empuraan.”

Previous record holders include Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, which reportedly sold 100K tickets in an hour, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’, which sold 41K tickets in two hours, and Vijay’s ‘Leo’, which clocked 83K tickets in an hour. Meanwhile, Prabhas’ ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ had also registered 93K ticket sales in its opening hour.

With the action drama movie ‘L2: Empuraan’ set to release on March 27, expectations are sky-high. The second part is expected to delve into the back story of the mysterious Abraam Khuresh. Several foreign actors including the ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘John Wick’ actor Jerome Flynn play major roles in this action flick. The recently released trailer received good responses.
