Following the second round of the Ford Women’s Open at Wollongong Golf Club, Diksha Dagar improved to 7-under with another strong score of 3-under 68. Previously tied for fourth place after the first round, Diksha is currently tied for sixth place as Sara Kouskova (67-63) and England’s Mimi Rhodes (68-62) shared the lead. According to a LET statement, the leaders were five strokes clear of Diksha at 12-under.
Both rookie Avani Prashanth (72-67) and Pranavi Urs (71-68) made the cut with strong second-round cards. They were tied for 19th place at 3-under for 36 holes.
Diksha started the day with a birdie on the first hole, but for the second consecutive day, he missed a shot on the fifth. For the second time in as many rounds, she missed a shot on the Par-5 ninth hole after making up for it with a birdie on the seventh. With three birdies on the 13th, 17th, and 18th holes and no bogeys for a 68, Diksha once again made good use of scoring on the back.
Pranavi got a birdie start and added more on the 14th, 16th, and 17th holes on a course where the back nine begins on the 9th. She missed a shot on the seventh for a 68, and there were no more birdies.
Avani, a former amateur who has won professional championships on her home Tour, the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour, and the LETAS, started the round with a birdie-birdie on the front nine and added birdies on the ninth, tenth, thirteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth holes before closing with a bogey. In her 67 earlier, she missed shots on the fourth and the fifth.
Sara and Mimi both had career-low rounds, but the second round has not yet been finished since there are still ten players to go as night falls in New South Wales.
Rhodes played a memorable round, shooting a course record 62 with 10 birdies. This includes a fantastic final birdie at the par-3 eighth hole, when she had to wait more than an hour to complete the 10-foot putt due to a suspension caused by thunder and lightning.
On Friday night, with little light remaining, Kouskova shot a bogey-free round of 63 (-8), matching the rookie’s total.
While she was putting for eagle on the 13th hole, the Czech star also had to contend with the thunder suspension being removed. Following the restart to convert the eagle, Kouskova maintained her poise. A perfect round of golf would need her to make six birdies elsewhere.
Kirsten Rudgeley, one of yesterday’s leaders, sits in solitary third place at nine-under par (65-68). Moa Folke of Sweden and Blanca Fernandez of Spain are tied for fourth place at eight under par.
With ten players remaining to complete at Wollongong Golf Club, the cut is presently one over par.
