Just 33 years ago a film made it to the big screens and little did the director and actors in the film know that it would turn out to be a huge hit. Made for Rs 13 crore the movie earned Rs 20 crore and became the highest-grossing film of that year when it was released. The movie featured two of the biggest stars in the industry and after its release the lead actors left behind names such as Govinda Shah Rukh Khan and Dharmendra. Yes you read that right! Let us tell you that the lead actor we are talking about is Anil Kapoor and the movie in discussion is Beta. Released in 1992 Beta became the highest-grossing film of the year. Helmed by Indra Kumar the movie featured Madhuri Dixit as the lead actress. However did you know that before Madhuri the role was offered to Sridevi? The actress turned down the film. When Madhuri was offered the film she immediately accepted and said yes. But it was Anil Kapoor who had his doubts about Madhuri and asked the director to cast a bigger heroine. In an interview given to the YouTube channel Filmymantra Media Adi Irani opened up on the matter and said Madhuri Dixit had signed many films. One or two of those films flopped after release. At that time Indra Kumar was about to make Beta and he had signed Anil Kapoor but he did not have dates for a year. Irani also revealed that during that time Indra was a new director in the industry and this was one of the biggest reasons for Sridevi to turn down the offer. She did not want to be a part of a film directed by a newcomer. Madhuri had also worked with Indra for his film Dil which became a huge hit. Later Beta also emerged as an even bigger hit and raked in money at the box office. Apart from Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit the movie also starred Aruna Irani Anupam Kher Priya Berde and Laxmikant Berde in key roles.
