Mumbais iconic Laxmi Nivas bungalow where revolutionaries like Ram Manohar Lohia Jayaprakash Narayan Achyut Patwardhan and Aruna Asaf Ali sought refuge during the Independence movement has been sold by its owners the Kapadia family for a whopping Rs 276 crore. According to documents from Ministry of Corporate Affairs the historic property located on the Nepean Sea Road near Malabar Hill in Mumbai has been sold to Vageshwari Properties Private Limited and one of the directors of the firm Elina Nikhil Meswani is the wife of Nikhil Meswani who is an executive director at Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). Laxmi Nivas bungalow sale Spread across 2221 square yards (1857.02 square meters) of land the Laxmi Nivas bungalow is a three-floor mansion with a built-up area of 2210.2 square yards. The main structure has a ground floor and two upper floors and there are additional structures at the rear. According to details of the deal the property was sold for a price of Rs 1.38 lakh per square foot making it one of the priciest locations in Mumbai city. The bungalow located close to Priyadarshini Park and opposite the Russian Consulate’s diplomatic residence occupies one of the cities most posh neighborhoods. The Laxmi Nivas was listed for sale in 2016 and garnered media attention primarily due to its historical significance. As per reports the deal for the bungalows sale was finalized in February this year however no official comment have been issued on the transaction by the buyer or the seller. Laxmi Nivas history Originally built by a Parsi family in 1904 Laxmi Nivas was the family home of the Kapadia family for over three generations as they had been living in historic bungalow since in 1917. The property has a rich history linked to the freedom struggle as it served as a secret base for revolutionaries  including Ram Manohar Lohia Jayaprakash Narayan Achyut Patwardhan and Aruna Asaf Ali during the Quit India Movement from 1942 to 1945. The iconic bungalow also served as the broadcasting center for Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Radio during the Indian Independence movement.
