After a long downturn the stock market witnessed significant gains last week with the Sensex surging 557 points and closed at 76905 on March 21 and the Nifty climbing 159 points to settle at 23350.
The top companies in India saw a major increase in market capitalization during the week with ICICI Bank emerging as the biggest gainer adding Rs 64426 crore to its market cap which now stands at Rs 9.48 lakh crore.
Three Companies Overtake Reliance
Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries India’s largest company by market capitalization was taken over in weekly earnings gains by three companies. ICICI Bank recorded the highest increase in market cap growing by Rs 64426 crore. Bharti Airtel followed with an addition of Rs 53286 crore while HDFC Bank added Rs 49105 crore. Reliance Industries market cap increased by Rs 39312 crore during the same period.

Among the top 10 companies ITC was the only one which saw a decline in market cap. ITC’s valuation dropped by Rs 7570.64 crore reducing its market cap to Rs 5.08 lakh crore from the previous Rs 5.15 lakh crore.
Total Market Value of 9 Companies
The combined market capitalization of nine companies in the top 10 list increased by Rs 3 lakh crore over the past week. Despite being surpassed in weekly gains Reliance Industries maintained its position as India’s largest company by market cap standing at Rs 17.27 lakh crore.
HDFC Bank ranks second with a market cap of Rs 13.54 lakh crore while Tata Group’s IT firm TCS now holds the third position with a market cap of Rs 12.95 lakh crore.
