Sony's Spider-Man Universe would be put on indefinite hold, essentially confirming that the franchise is now defunct.
With that, the new movie is definitely not going to be released in 2025. However, we have other important updates, and here’s everything you need to know.

Reportedly, the third installment was originally set for release on March 29, 2024. Delays got in the way, however, pushing the premier to 2026 at the very earliest.
With the previous films earning widespread critical acclaim, including an Oscar nomination for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in the Best Animated Feature category, expectations are high for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse does not have a release date currently, although it's expected to hit cinemas in mid-2026. Sony Pictures is also prepping a release on IMAX, so you can enjoy it on the biggest screen possible.

Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse is directed by both Bob Persichetti – who co-directed the first movie – and Justin K Thompson – who co-directed the second movie. The third one is set to pick up directly where the cliffhanger ending of Across the Spider-Verse. We were left off with Miles confronting his own variant in an alternative universe.
Additionally, it'll be the last film in the Spider-Verse series, as producer Christopher Miller told Deadline, "will be a very satisfying conclusion...It goes even more emotionally deep into the relationships between Miles, Gwen, Peter B., [and Miles'] parents."
The co-director Kemp Powers also told SFX of the cliffhanger ending, "We hope that it's a satisfying tee-up for what's coming in the third film because you want people to be excited about what's coming next. And it helps that we knew going in that this was part two of a three-part story. Since you already know that that third story is guaranteed, you can tackle it a bit differently."
