The Bihar government, headed by Nitish Kumar, has issued an order prohibiting schoolchildren from using autorickshaws or e-autos for transportation starting on April 1, 2025. Toll district SSPs and SPs, including Patna, received the advise on Monday from the head of the traffic department, Sudhanshu Kumar, who urged them to take strong action against anybody who disobeys the directives.

The Bihar development commissioner presided over a meeting in January 2025 when the decision was made. Parents, schools, and transportation providers were told to obey the directive by the authorities.

Why Should Schoolchildren Be Auto-Banned?

Due to the increasing number of traffic accidents, the absence of safety features in autorickshaws, the congestion, and the numerous infractions of traffic laws, the decision was made to prohibit schoolchildren from traveling in e-rickshaws and cars. Hundreds of cars carrying schoolchildren without the required licenses have been involved in collisions in places like Patna. The Transport Department is taking this action to protect children and enforce traffic laws.

DTO in Patna According to Upendra Kumar Pal, kids are not secure in cars. Additionally, Patna Traffic SP has stated that it is unlawful to drive children to school. Concerns about the safety of kids have also been brought up by transportation and car unions. Pappu Yadav, president of the Auto Rickshaw Drivers Association, and Raj Kumar Jha, general secretary of the All India Road Transport Workers Federation, have backed the Transport Department’s decision, stating that it is an essential measure to save the lives of children.
