However, this decision has disappointed the UP State Electricity Consumer Council. In keeping with Dr. BR Ambedkar’s ideals, the council has asked the government to halt the privatization process and guarantee that energy is affordable for the general populace.

Avadhesh Kumar Verma, the president of the Council, emphasized that Dr. Ambedkar had argued in 1934 for energy to stay under government control and to be not just inexpensive but also very cheap.

Just before to the government’s third anniversary, the Power Corporation’s Purchase Committee approved the privatization plan. A similar notification was previously issued on November 25, 2024, the eve of Constitution Day, which upset customers.

The Consumer Council has urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to overturn this ruling, stating that privatization may raise power costs and jeopardize the state’s energy infrastructure.
