Lando Norris looks set to finally win his first title after a worrying omen was revealed. star has enjoyed a brilliant start to the 2025 season.
The 25-year-old , following that up with second place last weekend in China. His McLaren teammate has also enjoyed a productive first few weeks of the campaign.
He finished ninth in Melbourne before roaring to his first win of the season. It leaves Norris on 44 points at the top of the Drivers’ standings, eight points clear of reigning champion , while Piastri is a further two points behind.
And in a major boost to the latter, the Australian could follow a very exciting trend. It has been revealed that six out of the last seven winners of the Chinese GP have gone on to win the championship that year.

It is a trend that stretches back until 2014, with , and Verstappen all benefitting. But worryingly, the only man to miss out was one of Piastri’s countrymen.
Daniel Ricciardo won in China back in 2018 but was beaten to the title by Hamilton. Regardless of if that trend benefits Piastri or Norris, the pair are ready to compete for the title.
The latter has already confirmed he has his eyes firmly fixed on silverware, despite some nerves within the group. Speaking after the Chinese GP, he said: “We were free to race in and here in China so I am sure we are going to have some closer racing at some point.

“We’re both excited — probably nervous and excited at the same time — as I’m sure the team will be. But we’re ready. Apart from (Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc), I don’t think there’s another team that has two drivers that push each other anywhere near as much. And for us, that’s a huge advantage.
“It’s definitely something we’ll maximise because it’s helping us beat every other team at the minute. But we know that as much as we work together and we have a good time and enjoy ourselves, we also know we want to try and beat each other and show who’s best. And that’s inevitable.
“So there’s no point trying to hide away from that fact or make something of it. We’re two competitors who both want to win.”
