New Delhi [India]: According to former India captain Sourav Ganguly, Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the Punjab Kings, is the most “improved” batter of the previous season and seems “ready” for any format.

After being removed from the BCCI’s central contract list for 2023–24, Shreyas has found himself again. With a new sense of confidence, he returned to the local system for India, put in the work, and resumed playing international cricket.

In the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Shreyas had his purple patch of success after concluding India’s victorious Champions Trophy campaign as the country’s top run scorer.

With a scorching 97* in the first innings, he cleared the path for his team to defeat the Gujarat Titans on enemy territory. During his outstanding performance, Shreyas said that his worst enemy, which was thought to be a short-length delivery, has now become an asset to him.

“Shreyas Iyer is the most improved batsman in the last year. He is ready for all formats,” the former BCCI president wrote on X, expressing his happiness at watching a fresh version of the 30-year-old. It’s wonderful to witness his progress after such lengthy problems.

For Shreyas to get his first IPL hundred wasn’t a wanton whim. His only motivation was to lead his team to win. Shreyas advised Shashank Singh to break his shackles and make the most of the last over as he began to feel tired and opted to forego his personal milestone.

PBKS reached a massive 243/5 thanks to five boundaries smashed by the powerful right-hander. GT gave up to a slim 11-run loss as the aim was too high for them to attain.

What the 30-year-old has been doing over the last year is reflected in his match-winning 97*. Shreyas scored 480 runs in five games for Mumbai during his most recent Ranji Trophy season, averaging 68.57 and hitting at a robust rate of 90.22.

Shreyas finished as the fourth-highest run scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 345 runs from nine games. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he showed off his prolific form by scoring 325 runs at an incredible average of 325.00 in five games.
