Disney+'s hit science fiction series that's widely considered one of the streaming platform's best projects is finally returning for a second season.

Originally released back in 2022, the critically acclaimed expansion of the Star Wars universe sees Diego Luna returning to his iconic role as Cassian Andor, a thief-turned rebel fighting to take down the Galactic Empire.

Creators Tony and Dan Gilroy will pick up where the jaw-dropping first outing left off, with the Empire getting closer to completing their world-destroying superweapon, the Death Star.

Season two follows Cassian as he becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance and is put to the test with betrayals and sacrifices in the events leading up to the 2016 prequel, Rogue One.

Star Wars fans couldn't be more excited to see the return of what's thought to be the best entry in the franchise since the original trilogy, taking to social media to react to the latest trailer.

One Reddit user commented: "When Disney first announced an Andor prequel series, I couldn't have cared less. Now this is my most anticipated show of the year... Season 1 is legitimately some of the best storytelling in the Star Wars universe."

And someone else replied: "Why does this show look leagues better than any other show they've done? Visually speaking. The effects. The cinematography. Everything. It looks like it has a proper budget while the other shows look like they're on a shoe string budget."

However, with the stakes higher than ever, some Star Wars aficionados are predicting some dire twists in the upcoming 12-part follow-up, which is set to premiere in just under a month's time.

One fan speculated: "I'm calling it now. Luthen (played by Stellan Skarsgård) - probably with the help of Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) - is going to provoke the Ghorman Massacre to drive Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) and the rest of the resistance groups into open rebellion.

"The truth will eventually come out and Luthen and Saw are both kicked out."

The Ghorman Massacre is a key event in the Star Wars canon that has only been mentioned in extended media, such as comic books and video games.

We won't go into details here, but the aftermath marks a pivotal moment for the Rebellion that convinces some key allies to join the fight against the Empire.

Other viewers have pointed out a brief but impactful moment in the trailer which features imperial officer Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) panicking and grasping at her throat.

"I wonder if this is after the ghorman massacre and she is having a crisis of conscience," one viewer predicted.

To which someone else replied: "It did seem more like a panicked, trying to undo her collar, gasping to breathe, than actively being choked, I thought.

"Does seem like something big has just happened."

More fans have also suggested Dedra is being force-choked, which could tease the return of Star Wars' most iconic villain, Darth Vader.

Andor season 2 premieres Wednesday, 23rd April on Disney+.
