The mansion of the historic Patvas present in Jaisalmer is one of the oldest structures in Rajasthan. The mansion of the patvas is a group of five havelis built by Patwa, a rich businessman from Jaisalmer. This businessman had five sons and each of them was constructed for each manner. It is believed that it took almost thirty years for the architects here to create a design of this mansion and about thirty years to make it, that is, it took more than 60 years to make these five havelis. In 1805, the first mansion was built by Guman Chand Patwa, a famous jewelery and brocade traders in India, due to which the mansion is also known as Patwa Haveli of Kothari.
Talking about the architecture of this mansion, the most special thing here is that a very beautiful and amazing work of glass has been done on the walls of this mansion. Pictures of trees, plants, nature, animals and historical events and excellent carvings have been very beautifully performed above the walls. There are more than 60 balconies present in the patvas, whose pillars have been painted differently. Every door of this mansion is filled with fine carvings, which is no less than an amazing sample of architecture. Along with this, complex carvings and paintings have been done with gold, silver and brocade at every window, arches, hair and entrances of this mansion. However, due to the apathy of time, aggressive climate and encroachment, there are some stains in its grandeur.
